Types of Salt You Should Know About

Salt is probably something you use on a daily basis, but how much do you know about this common seasoning? Here are some of the most basic types of salt you should know about.

Table Salt

If you’re not really a cooking enthusiast and only have one type of salt in your kitchen, it’s probably table salt. It’s available at every store and it’s pretty cheap, so it has widespread use. Table salt has small crystals that dissolve quickly, which is why it’s great for baking.

Kosher Salt

Kosher salt is coarse and has a cleaner taste than table salt. Because of its larger crystals, it’s a common choice for making seasoning blends. There are no additives in it.

Sea Salt

It’s common knowledge that salt comes from the sea, but what you probably didn’t know is that there are underground salt deposits that are mined in order to gather salt for food. They were once seas, too, which explains where all the salt comes from. Seawater, therefore, is made by evaporating seawater. You can find different varieties of it on the market.
