In this toasty summer, you might be wondering what drink recipes you can make that will quench your thirst and refresh you! We personally love making shandies, and mixing one with grapefruit juice can be a great way to get the most out of this low-alcohol beer cocktail that will keep you cool and refreshed. Here’s how to make them!

Ingredients:

  • 3 parts pilsner beer
  • 1 part fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice
  • Grapefruit slices (for garnish)
  • Tall pilsner glass

Instructions:

Start off by choosing a quality pilsner beer for the recipe. You’ll want to pick one of these beers since they have a light, non-hoppy body and a bit of sweetness that will counteract the bitterness of the grapefruit juice.

Pour your beer into a pitcher and then squeeze the grapefruit juice that you’ll need from a fresh, ripe grapefruit. Add the juice to the pitcher along with the beer and stir until they are completely mixed. Place in your refrigerator to chill to around 35-38 degrees F.

Pour into a tall pilsner glass and serve ice-cold! Enjoy!

Can you believe that the fall season is already here? For gastronomy, there’s nothing that’s quite as strongly associated with the season as the use of pumpkins in both food and drink. Whether you like it or not, the fall season is all about this special gourd!

Beer lovers will find all sorts of pumpkin-flavored brews during the fall, and here are three pumpkin beer styles that you should seek out.

Pumpkin Stout

Stouts naturally go well with pumpkin due to their maltiness and smoky, rich flavor. A number of craft breweries have introduced pumpkin stouts on the market, which go together perfectly with a cool autumn night.

Pumpkin Ale

Pumpkin ales are probably the most en vogue beer containing this autumn fruit, with a wide variety of creations being offered on the market. From coffee pumpkin ales to spiced pumpkin ales, these medium-bodied beers let pumpkin come to the forefront and shine.

Pumpkin Saison

Harder to find but oh so delicious are pumpkin saisons—a modern twist on this classic Belgian beer, which uses natural yeasts and bacteria to create a funky flavor. Mildly sour and occasionally described as “spicy,” pumpkin takes on a whole new flavor when put into a saison.

Shandies and radlers are two of the most popular light alcoholic beverages which are consumed and beloved by many during the warm summer months of the year.

While both of these drinks are quite similar and made with a base of beer and fruit beverages, there are some important differences that differentiate these two summer classics. What are they, then? Let’s find out!

Radler

A radler is a drink that originated in Germany in the early 20th century when cyclists were looking for a refreshing and hydrating brew to drink after long bike rides. A 50/50 mix of beer and lemon soda was created, but has since evolved into a drink that can be made with all kinds of fruit drinks. One of the most popular radlers on Earth is Austria’s Stiegl Radler, which is made with grapefruit juice.

Shandy

Shandies, originating in England, are a common fruit and beer mixture which is always made with a type of lemonade. These lemonades can either be carbonated or non-carbonated, but the result is always a mixture of beer and a lemon drink. The proportion of beer to lemonade sometimes varies, with beer occasionally being as low as 30% in the mixture.

Believe it or not, after a long and cold winter, it’s almost time for summer evenings outside and warm outdoor activities.

Are you a beer lover who is wondering what beers to add to your list to drink in the warm weather? Here are some great styles to choose from!

Session IPA

Session IPAs are a lighter version of the classic India Pale Ale, which is known for its high hop content and piney, citrus flavors. If you’re looking for a more accessible and easier-to-drink version of the classic IPA, the session version is fantastic for this purpose.

Gose

Have you ever tried a gose before? This beer style has recently emerged as a favorite in the craft beer world after its discovery. This style, which began as an obscure hundreds-old German creation, is now popular due to its slightly sour and salty characteristics, making it perfect for drinking while sweating outside.

Pilsner

You might know how to make a margarita in your own kitchen, but have you ever tried whipping together a beergarita before?

This margarita-like drink has a special ingredient than you can probably guess from its name, and trust us when we say that it’s both refreshing and delicious. Here’s how to make one at home!

Ingredients:

  • 1 12 ounce bottle Mexican lager (Tecate, Corona, Dos Equis, etc)
  • 4 ounces tequila
  • 2 ounces fresh-squeezed orange juice
  • 4 ounces lime juice
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • Ice, to taste
  • Lime slices, for garnish
  • Coarse salt, for garnish

Instructions:

(this recipe will yield 2-4 beergaritas)

  1. Start off by combining the bottle of Mexican lager with the tequila in a pitcher. Once you’ve done this, add the orange juice, lime juice, and simple syrup and stir gently.
  2. After this has been done, add ice to taste to the pitcher. This will help to serve the mixture cold.
  3. Finally, pour the beergaritas into a margarita glass and serve garnished with a lime slice and with coarse salt. You might even find that sticking an empty beer bottle that you’ve used for the recipe into the glass adds a nice, creative touch.

Enjoy!

There are so many types of beer, and with microbrewing and craft beer becoming more and more popular, it’s important to know the differences between some of the more popular beers. Learn more about beer and you’ll feel cooler when you go out with friends and coworkers.

Lagers

The word lager derives from the German word meaning “to store” because lagers are stored at nearly freezing temperatures before being distributed. Although they can be any number of colors from light to dark, they are generally somewhere in the middle of even lighter. Lagers are often described as tasting crisp and fresh.

Ales

Ales are made with a specific kind of yeast that make them taste fuller and a bit hoppier. They are darker than lagers, but they often still have some taste of fruitiness.

Porter

This beer is very dark in color, almost black, which says a lot about the depth of flavor it has. Although it is a heavier beer, there are still fruity notes to it, and is more aligned with the ale group of beers. Often porters will have the scent or taste of things like chocolate and coffee, but it can also be a bit smoky as well.

Enjoy!

This style, which began as an obscure hundreds-old German creation, is now popular due to its slightly sour and salty characteristics, making it perfect for drinking while sweating outside.

Pilsner

If you aren’t quite adventurous enough to wander too far into the craft beer world, don’t despair! By grabbing a classic pilsner, which combines sweet malt flavors with the perfect balance of hop bitterness for a crisp and refreshing product, you’ll be prepared for spending time outside in the warm weather.
