Learning how to make eggs is one of the most fundamental parts of cooking. That’s because eggs are a really versatile ingredient, and go way beyond just something you have for breakfast.
Take soft boiled eggs, for example. These are eggs that are fully cooked on the outside, like a hard boiled egg, but on the inside, the yolk is still lovely and runny like you would see on a fried egg. Making it doesn’t take much work, and it is such a great skill to have.

- Start off by boiling a pot of water. It doesn’t have to be a roaring boil, just a small one.
- Use a slotted spoon to place the eggs into the water. If you don’t use the spoon your eggs might crack against the pot.
- Then, put the lid of the pot on and set your timer for exactly 5 minutes. If you cook the egg for too long, your yolk will not be runny, which defeats the whole purpose.
- While the eggs are cooking, put some ice cubes in a bowl with water.
- When the timer goes off, use the spoon to scoop out the eggs and place them immediately into the water.
- Peel them and they’re ready to be eaten for breakfast, put into a bowl of ramen, or anything you can dream of!
