Pasta is a universally loved and versatile food that is enjoyed all around the world. The sheer simplicity of it lends itself to genius creations and innovative combinations of flavors. Each region of the world puts its own spin on it.

Here is how to make your own delicious pasta dishes at home in 5 simple steps.

Careful with the Water

The first step is to make sure you don’t use too much water. You want just the right amount of water to completely submerge the pasta but without leaving it to float in a huge bucket. This helps keep the pasta firm and prevent overcooking.

Boil in the Kettle

A good trick to speed up the process is to boil the water in the kettle first before pouring in into the saucepan. This makes the boiling much quicker, but also helps you add just the right amount of water so that the pasta is submerged without swimming in it.

Pinch of Salt

When the boiling water has been added and the heat is turned up to full, add a few minches of salt to the water.

Prepare Sauce

Once the pasta is boiling, turn the heat down so that it simmers for about 8-15 minutes depending on the kind of pasta. While that cooks, turn your attention to the sauce. This could be tomato, mushroom or creamy cheese.

Serve Soft But Firm

You can tell when the pasta is ready because the fork should be able to pick it up and let it fall off again. An alternative method is to thrown the pasta at the wall—if it’s ready, it will stick. When the pasta is cooked through, drain all the water and serve with the sauce.
