Heston Blumenthal is a British celebrity chef known for his unique approach to cooking. Blumenthal likes to make unexpected food pairings and unusual recipes that some consider genius and others outrageous. However, this doesn’t mean he tends to overcomplicate simple dishes.

We recently came across Blumenthal’s take on a bacon sandwich that keeps the basic approach with a few tweaks along the way that make it taste better.

How to Make Heston Blumenthal’s Ultimate Bacon Sandwich

Blumenthal starts his “Ultimate Bacon Sandwich,” as he calls it, with three long strips of bacon. He puts them in between two sheets of parchment paper and then thins them down using a rolling pin. According to him, this tenderizes the bacon.

Blumenthal cuts the bacon strips in half and cooks them in vegetable oil. However, he wants to have two styles of bacon in his sandwich, so he only takes out half of the bacon pieces. The other half remains in a pan on low heat to get crispier.

In the meantime, Blumenthal makes a sauce for his sandwich. He combines equal amounts of ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard in a tiny bowl and just mixes it. The celebrity chef recommends using a hot dog-style mustard as others won’t work as well.

Finally, it is time to assemble the sandwich. Blumenthal toasts one slice of bread. According to him, this gives the sandwich a soft and crisp feel at the same time. He spreads some butter on the toasted slice of bread, lines it with soft and crisp pieces of bacon, and then closes it with the soft bread.

Blumenthal says you can put the sauce in the sandwich if you want, but he prefers dipping the sandwich in the sauce. Either way, it looks absolutely delicious.
