Celebrate Simple Cooking with Dana Shultz

If you’re a fan of Instagram foodies, chances are you’ve come across the Minimalist Baker. Run by recipe developer, food stylist, and cookbook author Dana Shultz, the Instagram page sports a whopping 2 million following.

According to Shultz’s website, Minimalist Baker celebrates simple cooking by sharing recipes that require 10 ingredients or less, 1 bowl, or 30 minute or less to prepare.

“The first and most important approach to food is simplicity,” explained Shultz in an interview with BakepediaThat’s important to me because that’s the way I cook, and the way I search for recipes online and in cookbooks to actually make,” she notes.

With all eaters welcome, Shultz notes that her readers and followers value healthy options, and special diet friendly recipes.

“I always recommend reading the whole recipe start to finish and observing the required prep and cook time before starting, so they have an idea of what they’re getting into and aren’t surprised along the way,” she adds . “I also don’t recommend making too many substitutions or alterations to the recipes as vegan and gluten-free baking especially can be tricky when you make too many swaps.”

While many of the recipes on Minimalist Baker are plant-based, her website isn’t exclusively vegan or plant-based.

According to Shultz, her favorite foods to work with include bananas for their natural sweetness and ability to act like an egg in some recipes. “I also love working with unsweetened plain almond milk, because it’s so versatile and lends itself to sweet and savory dishes alike,” she says.

If you don’t have fancy ingredients, expensive equipment, or hours to cook meals every night, you’re in the right place.
