Best Ways to Chop Onions Without Shedding a Tear

Cutting onions and crying go hand in hand, but what if we told you could go through this task without shedding a tear? Try one of these methods while chopping onions, and save your tears for the next time Adele drops an album.

Freezing Onions

One of the best ways to cut onions without crying is to put them in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes before you start cutting them. Make sure not to keep them inside for too long so they wouldn’t release a bad odor, and you’re good to go.

Running Water

Cutting an onion under running water is another useful, tear-free method. This trick may be a bit difficult to pull off, so if it’s not working for you consider only soaking the onions in the cold water before you start chopping them.

Fan On

Another effective method will require you to turn your kitchen fan on. Do all of the chopping on the top of your stove and use the vent to pull the gases away from your eyes so you wouldn’t cry along the way.
