Cooking is a great source of joy to many, but there are many factors to keep in mind when in the kitchen. A super important one is food storage, and certain foods require some care and attention to store well. Here are some useful tips to help these staple ingredients stay fresher longer.

Be Careful With Potatoes

These versatile carbs might seem super hardy, but do require a bit of care when storing. Ensure they’re in a dark, dry place as they don’t do well with light and moisture. Keep them away from onions as well, as these encourage potatoes to sprout.

Freeze Fresh Herbs

Fresh herbs are amazing to have around but are renowned for turning bad super fast. To prolong their life, you can chop them up and place them in ice cube trays. Add water or oil depending on what you’ll use them for, and place them in the freezer.

Decant Tinned Food

Tinned food obviously keeps for a while, but once opened this isn’t so true. To keep it longer, decant it into a container and seal shut to then pop it in the fridge.

Use Some Kitchen Towel for Leafy Greens

Leafy greens are an amazing ingredient, but so often don’t last very long. Line a container with a kitchen towel, place the greens in there, and seal it shut, as this soaks up the excess moisture which stops them from wilting.
