If you have it on a regular basis for breakfast in the morning, cereal can get really boring. Let’s face it, if you’re eating a healthy cereal like Cheerios or Wheaties every day, you can even get to the point of dreading your morning breakfast if you don’t switch things up a bit.

One of my favorite ways to do this is to add sliced fruit or berries to my cereals every morning. Here are three fruits that you can try!

Banana

Slicing a banana and putting in on my cereal is a tradition I have kept going since I was a young kid. Adding the delicious sweetness to a normal type of cereal makes for both a sweet and a nutritious breakfast choice.

Strawberries

A handful of strawberries sliced up and placed upon a bed of cereal and milk is another great way to kick off your morning. The sweet and tangy flavor of these berries work together perfectly with the flavors of milk and the grains that make up cereal.

Blueberries

Finally, if you want a super easy choice that you don’t even have to use a knife to slice up to put in your cereal, why not try blueberries? These tart and slightly sweet little berries are a great option, if you’re looking for a simple choice that isn’t as sweet as the two previous options.

Summer is finally upon us, as the official beginning of the season took place on June 21st. For fruit lovers, this season offers a ton of delicious options to consume as our local fruit and produce markets begin to see the fruits of this season’s harvest.

Be sure to add these fruits to your shopping list and add the best of summer to the kitchen.

Watermelon

Watermelon’s name is apt, as this fruit’s content is more than 90% H2O! That makes it a perfect and refreshing treat for the warm months of summer, as it gives you a sweet hydration boost that is perfect for days at the pool or the beach.

Peaches

Peaches also come into their peak during the summer. This classic fruit oozes juiciness and sweet flavor that makes it a perfect snack on its own or a great option in desserts like peach cobbler and peach ice cream.

Strawberries

Nothing quite says summer like a container full of strawberries on a picnic in a sunny park. These juicy and delicious red berries are at their peak in early summer, and you should run to the store now to snatch some up.

One of the bests things about summer are all the fresh fruits like watermelon, fresh berries, and melons. If you’re worried about the fruit going bad quickly, frozen fruits are a great alternative. There’s so many amazing desserts and drinks you can make with frozen strawberries and here are just a few to get you started.

Strawberry Shortcake Ice Box Bars

These frozen strawberry shortcakes pair strawberries and whipped cream in this mouth-watering dessert. The secret to thickening the frozen strawberries is cornstarch and believe it or not, these taste even better than they look.

Strawberry Cupcakes

Chunks of strawberries in the batter are what make these cupcakes special and the frozen strawberry sauce mixed with the cream cheese frosting makes these taste so fresh.

Strawberry Daiquiri Punch

This recipe is so easy to make—all you need to do is blend some thawed frozen strawberries and stir them into a limeade concentrate, juice, or rum, and soda. This is a crowd-pleaser you’ll want to whip up at your next summer party.

Strawberry Greek Frozen Yogurt

For those of you who prefer tart opposed to sugary sweet, like chocolate or vanilla froyo, make some strawberry Greek frozen yogurt. We guarantee it will taste even better than what you’ll buy at the shop.

Strawberry and Sage Shrub

The star of this drink is the frozen strawberry sauce that’s made by simmering unsweetened berries with lemon, pink peppercorns, honey, and sage. Add a splash of bubbly like club soda or sparkling wine to complete this cocktail.

Most of you probably know that tomatoes are technically fruit while watermelon belongs to the group of vegetables. But did you know about this berry confusion that has many people perplexed? Apparently, if we’re to believe the botanical definitions, bananas are berries, but strawberries aren’t.

Categorizing and defining plants is not an easy job and we’re sure the people in charge of it did the best they could, but some things still surprise us. Berries are one of the fruit subcategories, just like citrus, stonefruit, pome, and drupe. Since the technical definition states that berry is a fruit produced from the ovary of a single flower, further research tells us that bananas fall into this category but strawberries and raspberries don’t.

In order to be a berry, fruit needs to have two or more seeds and develop from a single-ovary flower. Bananas fits into this description, and so do tomatoes, kiwis, and eggplants.

What about strawberries? They are known as “accessory fruits,” which means their flesh doesn’t come from the ovaries, but from the receptacle in which the ovaries are found. Good luck knowing your fruits from now on!

Strawberries

Strawberries might be your favorite fruit, but they sure are high in pesticides. According to EWG, one-third of all the strawberries they examined showed traces of ten different pesticides. This is a scary number, so make sure you got the right strawberries when shopping.

Potatoes

Nectarines

Just like strawberries, nectarines are delicious. But, unfortunately, they can be loaded with pesticides. The only difference is that when tested they showed a significantly lower number of different types of pesticides. While strawberries go up to ten, nectarines show two.

Kale

Kale also contains a worrying number of 10 pesticides when examined. This is one of the only green vegetable that is not as healthy as we think. Celery, lettuce and collard are also treated with many chemicals that are not good for consumers.

Cherries

Cherries are often treated with pesticides, and with a large number of them. During research, scientists usually find around five different types.
