If you wake up in the middle of the night or perhaps simply want something to snack on after dinner, then it’s important that you choose your food wisely. After all, you won’t want to eat food that makes you feel bloated and ruins your sleep. Here are some healthy nighttime snacks that you can enjoy that are conducive to sleep.

Walnuts or Almonds

Both of these nuts are filled with fiber, improving digestion, and antioxidants which reduce inflammation and pain. Walnuts, in particular, contain omega-3 fatty acids which are effective at inducing sleep while there is plant protein as well.

Smoked Salmon on Whole Wheat Crackers

Salmon is rich in both omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D, making it effective at inducing sleep while also reducing salt cravings as you head to sleep. Put the salmon on crackers with some cream cheese for a tasty late-night snack.

Yogurt With Granola

Packed with calcium and protein, yogurt is nutritious and tasty, making for an ideal snack before bed. The Vitamin D and tryptophan found in yogurt will boost your heart and immune health while also helping to make you sleepy. The omega-3 in granola will also do well to put you at ease.

Are you about to go into a workout but feel as if you haven’t had enough to eat? Perhaps you’ve already eaten but you’re still lacking energy? Either way, these workout snacks will be sure to provide you with the energy boost you need to smash your workout.

Bananas

Rich in carbohydrates and potassium, bananas will provide you with extra energy while also facilitating muscle growth. What’s more, no prior preparation is needed. Pop a banana into your gym bag to eat whenever you feel that craving for some extra nutrition.

Corn Flakes

Because cereal is a high source of carbohydrates, it can actually help you during your muscle recovery after your workout. It’s also high in fiber, helping to regulate your digestion.

RXBAR Protein Bars

When it comes to getting the energy you need to go the distance, there is perhaps no better workout snack than a protein bar that has been engineered for this specific reason. RXBAR protein bars are filled with natural ingredients, making them a healthy and effective source of energy.

How many times have you shoved a bag of popcorn in the microwave just because you thought you couldn’t make a decent batch of popcorn on the stovetop? While convenient, microwave popcorn may be harmful to your health, and stovetop popcorn is often much tastier and fun anyway! You only need a few things and some simple tips and you’ll be ready to make your own stovetop popcorn anytime you want.

You need a good pot with lid, popcorn kernels, oil, and salt — that’s all! Make sure you use medium heat so your oil doesn’t burn and you can start. Pour some oil into the pot. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to start with 2-3 kernels and wait for them to pop before you put the rest in the pan. You can simply dump them all in the cold oil in one thick layer, but this will really depend on the size of your pot. Finding what’s the best amount of kernels for your pot may take a few tries.

Put the lid on the pot and wait for the popcorn to start popping. Once they do, shake the pot from time to time to let the unpopped kernels fall to the bottom. Remove from heat as soon as the popping stops.

Pour into a bowl and season with salt.

Ingredients:

To make the delicious cashew cheese spread you will need:
8oz vegan cream cheese
2 cups raw cashews
1 1/2 tablespoon agave syrup
1 1/2 teaspoon Italian herbs seasoning
4 tablespoons lemon juice
2-5 tablespoons water
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 teaspoon salt

If you are not vegan feel free to use any cream cheese that you like. Decorate it on top with virgin olive oil at the end.

How To Make It:

Soak the cashews overnight and drain them the next morning.

Rinse, then put the cashews in a blender. Add the agave syrup, cream cheese, Italian seasoning, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Blend everything until you get a smooth mixture. Use high speed to get an even consistency.

Shrimp cocktail is the epitome of beach coast glamour. One of the easiest foods to cook, shrimp cocktail is a must for this summer especially if you can get seafood fresh on the coast. Shrimp cocktail is easy to share and is the perfect finger food for a party or picnic occasion.

When preparing shrimp cocktail purchase fresh, larger sized, shelled shrimp. You first will devein the shrimp by cutting out the veins along the back center line, but without fully removing the shell. Then rinse and cook.

For shrimp cocktail, you can boil or fry the shrimp but we recommend steaming because there is less of a chance of overcooking the shrimp. As soon as you start to see the shrimp float in the boiling water (after just a couple minutes) remove and put on ice. This is a very fast process.

Allow for at least a half hour on ice and in a freezer for the shrimp to cool.

While you are waiting, make the dipping sauce. The most simple sauce is just ketchup and horseradish to taste. Then make sure to cut some lemon lightly squeeze over the shrimp.

Lastly, pair with a nice cocktail such as a dirty martini or Bloody Mary, and enjoy!
