This recipe is pretty hands-off and simple and results in a delicious, sticky, pork belly you won’t be able to resist.
Ingredients:
- 20 oz of lean pork belly
- 5 cups of water
- 4 slices of ginger
- 1 green onion
- 2 crushed cloves of garlic
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons of light and dark soy sauce each
- 3 tablespoons of rice wine
Instructions:
- Boil 4 cups of water while you cut the pork belly into cubes. Also, cut the green onion into 2 or 3 pieces.
- Toss the green onion, pork, ginger, and garlic into the water, and boil for 4 minutes. Drain and dry the pork and toss out the other ingredients.
- Dry the pot, put it back on the heat over high, and pour in the oil.
- Once the oil is hot, put the pork in for a few minutes to brown. Turn the heat to low, add in the sugar, and melt it so it can coat the pork.
- Put the soy sauces and rice wine into the pot, stir it constantly for 5-7 minutes so the liquid reduces but it doesn’t burn.
- Add the last cup of water, stir, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes stirring every so often.
- Continue to cook until the sauce is thick and glossy, and then serve right away.
