We’ve all heard it a thousand times: green leafy vegetables are good for you and you should try and eat them at least once per day. But what is actually so good about these leaves?

Here are some of the health benefits of eating green leafy vegetables.

Green leafy vegetables are packed full of vitamins A, C and K. These help your eyes, bones and skin stay strong and healthy, as well as improve the immune system.

Alkaline

They are also alkaline, meaning that they have pH above 7. This can neutralize excess stomach acid and help alleviate the symptoms of heartburn or indigestion.

Minerals

Green leafy vegetables—such as kale, spinach and lettuce—are also rich in essential minerals—such as magnesium, potassium and calcium.

Eating them regularly also reduces inflammation of the gut and joints.
