What to Eat on Your Next Trip to Germany

If you’re planning a trip to Germany, there are many delicious and traditional food staples that you must try along the way. Some may be common across the world, and others less so, but all are sure to be comfort food that you will love. Keep reading for a few things to eat and drink in Germany.

Brezeln (Soft Pretzels)

Brezeln, also known as soft pretzels, are a delicious treat that is a staple in Germany. The pretzels consist of flour, malt, salt, yeast, and water. But, once they’re knotted, boiled, and baked, they turn into a salty treat that will make your tastebuds dance.

Currywurst

This is a popular street food all across Germany and often a guilty pleasure for most. The dish consists of liked wurst (sausage) with tangy curried tomato sauce and lots of spicy curry powder on top, and served with french fries. Some carts will also make a vegetarian version of this munchy food for vegetarians to enjoy.

Bratwurst

Made with a combination of beef, pork, and veal, Bratwurst is known as Germany’s most famous sausage and is widely consumed amongst Germans at home and around the world.

Schnitzel

Perhaps most widely known around the world,  Schnitzel, which is a fried and breaded chicken cutlet, is a staple in Germany. Cooks will often prepare different types of schnitzel by combining it with veal or pork, before breading and frying it.
