At this time of year, many of us are lucky enough to have a glut of apples from our fruit trees in the garden. If you don’t have your own trees, perhaps you’ve been gifted a crate of apples from a friend of family member, or simply couldn’t resist buying a load of this seasonal fruit in the grocery store. If you’ve now got more apples than you know what to do with, check out these three ideas of ways to use up these delicious fruits.

Apple Bread

Follow your favorite banana bread recipe, but replace the quantity of bananas it calls for with homemade apple puree. To make the puree, stew the apples in a saucepan with a tablespoon of sugar until they start to fall apart. The puree may be a touch more wet than mashed bananas, so you may need to slightly up the amount of flour used in the recipe.

Roast Chicken With Apple

Halfway through the time it takes to roast the chicken, take three or four apples, pierce their skins with a fork, and place them around the chicken on the roasting tray. As the chicken continues to roast, its juices should mingle with those of the apples, creating a delicious gravy base. The apples can be served up as they are, or mashed into potatoes to create a sumptuous, tasty mash.

Vegetable Stew

If you are cooking up a hearty vegetable stew, add a few cubed apples to the mix. As they cook down, they will lend a sweetness and tartness that can really add interest to the flavors in the stew, without overwhelming the overall taste.
