The flavor difference between sweet potatoes and regular potatoes is clear, but what are the health differences? Even though the different types of potatoes have similar consistencies and cooking procedures, the nutritional facts are significantly different.

If you are trying to eat a lower fat food, sweet potatoes are actually less fat and have around 100 calories on average while regular potatoes have around 170 calories. If you are trying to fulfill protein requirements, regular potatoes have on average three more grams of protein than sweet potatoes.

Neither type of potato is low in carbohydrates but if you decide to prepare the root in olive oil and roast rather than fry you can preserve more of the positive nutrients. While neither is a particularly light food potatoes are nutrient dense, are filling and are a great source of energy.
