Pomegranates are not a fruit that is often utilized in the home kitchen, because it is a little intimidating. And when people do use it, they buy just the seeds, which can be expensive and also not necessarily fresh. The pomegranate season actually starts in the fall, so this is the perfect time to pick one up and try de-seeding it in your own kitchen! And once you know how to get them out, you will be finding ways to use them in all your cooking.

Instructions

  1. First, find a pomegranate that feels heavy when you pick it up. It doesn’t necessarily have to be big but it should feel heavy, which means it’s full of juicy seeds.
  2. Then, cut it in half through the middle.
  3. Get a bowl and hold the pomegranate in your hands so you cup it and the seeds are facing down into the bowl.
  4. Using the back of a wooden spoon, bang on the pomegranate so the seeds fall into the bowl.
  5. Repeat on the other side and you’ll have a bowl full of pomegranates!

Uses

Toss into a simple salad with any sort of green and chicken, and you have a fabulous meal!
