Do you love everything bagels? The best part of them has to be the seasoning. It turns out that this seasoning is super easy to make and you can use the blend on toast, in soups, on vegetables, on dips, and on popcorn. This freshly toasted seasoning taste so much better than the store bought blends. Here’s how to make it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt or 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion, dried garlic, salt, and red pepper flakes in a small skillet.
  2. Warm over medium heat and stir frequently until the spices are fragrant and the sesame seeds are starting to turn barely golden on the edges, for about 5 minutes. Watch the pan as the seeds can burn quickly if they aren’t stirred frequently.
  3. Transfer the mix to a small bowl. You can store the leftover spice blend in a jar at room temperature for up to 1 month.
