Tahini is one of the most popular sauces to have come out of the Middle East. It is one of the foundational ingredients of hummus, but stands on its own as well. However, if you can’t find it at your local grocery store, you can always make it at home! There are only 2 ingredients in this recipe, so there’s no excuse not to try!
Start off by toasting 140 grams of sesame seeds in a pan without any oil for about 3 minutes until you smell their natural nuttiness. The seeds are really small, so make sure to move them around so they don’t burn.
Pour the seeds into your kitchen appliance of choice and start blending.
Scrape down the sides every so often, and when you see it can’t be blended any more, start adding some oil.
The oil you choose should be flavorless, so go with a vegetable oil, grapeseed, or canola.
Add in 2-4 tablespoons of the oil of your choice while the motor is running until you get a creamy tahini sauce.
The recipe makes about 1/2 cup of tahini and can be stored in the fridge for up to a month!
