The fall season is finally here, and as you begin to notice the temperatures dropping and the leaves changing colors, you’ll also see that different seasonal fruits and vegetables are becoming available at your local grocery store or supermarket.

When making your shopping list from September through December, make sure to add these tasty in-season fruits to your list and enjoy all of their fantastic possibilities.

Apples

Apples might be thought of as a year-round fruit, but these beauties actually come into season during the autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. While great as a simple snack, you can also try more adventurous recipes—like baked apples with brown sugar or apple cider—by using these little guys.

Cranberries

Cranberry sauce is a staple on Thanksgiving plates every November, so it comes as no surprise that this fruit is at its best during the fall. Tarts, pies, and cakes are some of the places where this “superfood” stands out, but the possibilities are really endless.

Pears

Pears are like applesubiquitous year-round—but at their peak during the fall. The summer heat turns these fruits sweet and juicy by the time they are ready for harvest in the fall, after which they can be used in salads, as a snack, or for any of a number of culinary uses.

When you think of adding fiber to your diet, what types of foods do you think of? While many of us might associate this nutrient with grains and vegetables, did you know that you can actually get a strong dose of fiber through certain fruits?

Fiber is extremely important for dietary health and is a crucial component of any healthy diet, so why not work these fruits into your routine?

Kiwis

Kiwis are a fantastically versatile fruit, as they can be enjoyed with or without their peel, in yogurts and desserts, or by themselves! Not only is this fruit tasty, but it also packs a healthy punch of 3 grams of fiber per 100 grams.

Pears

Pears are available in tons of different colors, varieties, and flavors, but what they all have in common is their generous fiber content. In fact, one medium-sized pear tends to contain around 5.5 grams of dietary fiber, nearly 25% of what you should consume per day of this nutrient!

Bananas

Bananas are a wonderful fruit that helps with dietary health, muscle cramps, and energy levels, and its levels of fibers are nothing to sneeze at either. A banana usually contains between 3 and 4 grams of dietary fiber, a great start to getting towards your daily needs of this nutrient.

Knowing how to make baked pears is a great skill to have because they come in handy in so many different ways! You can serve them with ice cream, as a sweet treat for brunch, or serve them with yogurt for breakfast. They only require six ingredients, take 20 minutes tops to make, and keep well in the fridge! Let’s get started.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium pears that are fairly ripe
  • 4 teaspoons of unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 4 teaspoons of orange marmalade

*You can also sub the marmalade for apple butter, but if you do, you might want to omit the sugar and cinnamon since those ingredients will already be present in the apple butter.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  2. Peel both the pears and cut them in half, and scoop out a bit of the core. Place them into a shallow baking dish with the cut side facing up.
  3. Put one teaspoon of butter inside each of the pears and drizzle the lemon juice over the pears.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle the mixture over the pears and finish each one with 1 teaspoon of the marmalade or apple butter.
  5. Cover with tin foil and bake for 15-20 minutes!

Grapes

Just like figs, the grape is loaded on sugar. It is definitely something we all love to enjoy in it, especially at the end of the summer. Another amazing product from grapes is wine, so there is no chance in hell you should forget about this fruit.

Cherries

Cherries might be your favorite ones, but these fruits are packed with sugar. Only one cup of cherries has 18 grams of sugar. That sure does sound like quite a lot, but summer wouldn’t be the same without them.

Pears

Pears are another one of those sweet fruits that you simply can’t get enough. If you are trying to cut back on sugar, you might want to forget about pears.

Bananas

Bananas are extremely high in calories and also among the fruits with most sugar. But sugar is not the only thing they contain. Bananas are also packed in vitamins and minerals that make your life better.
