Christmas is a time for indulgence, and it’s a time of year when chocolate really comes into its own. From cakes to cookies to after dinner sweets, you’ll find foods with a high cocoa content around every table at this time of year. Here are three traditional chocolates to include in your Christmas festivities.

Pralines

Filled with a delicious hazelnut-based cream, pralines are many people’s favorite when they’re looking for a rich and indulgent after dinner chocolate. You can find pralines in white, milk, or dark chocolate, or sometimes a combination of the three.

Mint Chocolate

The archetypal after dinner chocolate, mint chocolate can be a nice palate cleanser when a lot of rich food is being consumed. It’s not one to consume loads of, so if you’re looking for a small, sophisticated treat seek out some good quality mint chocolate.

Dark Chocolate

Most children will turn their noses up at the offering of dark chocolate, but if you’re drinking something sweet and rich like port or brandy, a good quality dark chocolate can accompany this beautifully. Seek out bars with a cocoa content of 60% or higher, and make sure that cocoa or cocoa butter is the first ingredient, rather than sugar.

The days are getting colder, and all we want is to stay home, watch Netflix, and get all curled up in a cozy blanket along with some delicious snacks.

And what is a better fit for such a winter pass-time than a hot cup of hot chocolate? Delicious, chocolatey, deep, and comforting, hot chocolate is not only a pleasant childhood memory but a legitimate exciting drink to end the day with.

There are many ways to make hot chocolate. Some people use real chocolate, some use excellent cocoa powder and sugar, and some simply buy ready-to-use instant chocolate powder and add milk. Here is one recipe we especially like.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup high-quality milk chocolate or excellent dark chocolate
  • Marshmallow
  • Grated chocolate
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

Boil the milk and sweet cream. After boiling, melt the chocolate into the mixture and filter.

Place marshmallows and chocolate cubes in the bottom of the cup, pour the hot chocolate over them, and garnish with whipped cream.

When your hot chocolate is all done, you can add an infinite number of toppings such as espresso, white chocolate, nougat and Nutella, cinnamon, or nutmeg, and some even add salt!
