Every dinner party needs delicious appetizers to start the meal and instead of a charcuterie board, which you will see everywhere, why not kick it up a notch by serving these retro appetizers? They might seem a little old school, but you can always modernize them with different toppings, herbs, and spices.

Mushroom Vol-au-Vents

This creamy puffy pastry dish is a great starter for a meal. You can make them super small so your guests won’t get too full, and you can swap out the mushrooms for asparagus or prawns and ricotta. They are versatile and easy to make (if you buy the ready-made pastry).

Prawn Cocktail

You can’t go wrong with a prawn cocktail appetizer, it might be considered a little old-fashioned, but it is still a favorite amongst most people. You can barbecue the prawns to add some more flavor, or if you want to really modernize it, put it on a taco for a bite-size starter.

Sticky Chicken Wings

Sticky chicken wings might be a little messy, but they are a fabulous appetizer for every meal. You can make them with pineapple for a fruity twist or barbecue sauce. Whatever sauce you decide to use, remember to give your guests lots of napkins.

Everything becomes so much better when you add cheese. This stuffed mushroom recipe combines the best, most delicious ingredients. Plus, you can prepare them so fast.

Ingredients:

These stuffed mushrooms require 12 whole fresh mushrooms, 1 8-oz package cream cheese, 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper.

Instructions:

The recipe is so easy and simple. These stuffed mushrooms will take less than an hour altogether. Start by setting the oven on 250 F degrees and getting a baking sheet.

Get the mushrooms, wash them, and remove the stems. Chop the stems into very small pieces. Grab a skillet and add oil. Once the oil is hot, include the pieces of the stems and garlic. Cook them until you notice that there is no moisture anymore. Once they are done and have cooled down, you can pour the parmesan cheese, cream cheese, onion powder, black pepper and cayenne pepper.

Get a spoon and start filling the inside of the mushrooms with the filling. Put the stuffed mushrooms on the baking sheet and leave in the oven for 20 minutes. Serve them with sour cream on the side for the best experience.
