Most people don’t even bother making pasta when they are out of pasta sauce. But if you ask us, this is a missed opportunity to experiment and open your taste buds to new and exciting flavor combinations. Next time you are out of pasta sauce and craving pasta or simply want to try something new, use these alternatives.

Butter and Red Pepper Flakes

This is one of the simplest ways to make pasta taste awesome. Place hot pasta in a bowl and add some butter and red pepper flakes. Toss until the butter melts and red pepper flakes spread around. Alternatively, you can also use black pepper or even some other spices instead of red pepper flakes.

Salad Dressing

Salad dressings are widely used in pasta salads, and they taste amazing. There is nothing stopping you from adding one to hot pasta, and it will be equally great. Alternatively, you can make your own salad dressing for this occasion by combining olive oil, mustard, salt, garlic, and lemon juice.

Barbecue Sauce

This one might sound controversial, but don’t judge before you try. With its tangy and smokey flavor, BBQ sauce will pack pasta with a lot of flavor, especially if you add some chicken or other protein to the dish.

Pesto

Finally, pesto is always a great pairing for pasta. It will result in bright and light pasta with a dose of creaminess, and you’ll like it so much that you won’t even think about the missing pasta sauce.

Finding time to cook during the week can prove difficult between work and looking after the kids. Fortunately, there is a filling and scrumptious pasta recipe that takes less than an hour to prepare. Here is your guide to making a Spaghetti All’Assassina that will be perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 3 cups tomato puree
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 5 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Heat a skillet of oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until the garlic begins to soften. Add tomato paste and cook for 1 more minute.
  2. Pour the broth and the puree into a bowl. In the skillet, lay down the spaghetti and turn the heat to medium-high. Add 1 cup of broth and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until there is a thickened paste around the spaghetti and at the bottom of the skillet.
  3. As the spaghetti begins to burn and stick to the skillet, use a spatula to lift it. Add another cup of broth and more salt to the pasta. Cook for another 25 to 30 minutes, until the pasta is al dente and the sauce is thickened.

No matter how much you love pasta, there are times when you’ll realize you’ve boiled too much after it’s too late. Once that happens, you can go down two different paths—throw the leftovers away or put them to some good use. Food waste shouldn’t be an option because there are many delicious dishes that you can make with leftover pasta, including these three.

Pasta Salad

Pasta salad is the best of both worlds and you don’t need freshly-boiled pasta to make it delicious. Pasta should actually be cold when you’re making this salad, so using leftovers makes total sense when it comes to this tasty dish.

Pasta Frittata

Frittatas are traditionally an egg-based food, but how about adding some pasta to the mix and making the ultimate Italian dish? Leftover pasta will do just fine and all you have to do is sauté your pasta in a pan with some beaten eggs and a drizzle of oil.

Pasta Bakes

Pasta bakes are an extremely popular take on your favorite dish, and making them with fresh pasta is not a must. Leftovers will do just fine, and your baked feta pasta will taste equally delicious if you make it this way.
