Coronavirus outbreak is the time to stay at home, but that doesn’t mean you should eat more than you need to. If your reaction to stressful situations is to eat more, you may be worried about how to avoid that urge now. Here are our best tips.

Structured Meals

Fight the urge to snack all day long and make sure you’re having three meals per day, approximately at the same time every day. Eat your breakfast, lunch, and dinner, just like you normally would.

Healthy Snacks

Make sure you always have your favorite fruits and veggies at hand because they make great snacks for when you’re hungry between meals or just bored. Other great options include nuts, dried fruits, seeds, etc.

Portion Snacks

If you don’t want to give up on your favorite snacks, never eat them directly out of the bag. Instead, portion them into smaller containers so you know exactly how much you are eating.

If you, like millions of other people, find yourself staying at home all of a sudden, it can be difficult to stay productive and not fall into some new, bad habits. Sitting at home often goes together with eating more, and if you want to avoid this, here are our best tips.

Don’t Skip Meals

You may think that you will eat less if you skip breakfast or lunch, you’ll probably compensate for everything in the evening plus a lot more. Starving yourself will only lead to food cravings and you’ll crave unhealthy food and snacks most of the time.

Snack

Snacks are not bad, but you need to choose them carefully. Avoid industrial snacks and candy and go for nuts, fruits, yogurt, peanut butter, etc. There’s actually a big selection of healthy snacks you can enjoy every day!

Exercise

Exercising will help you fight stress that’s often the cause of overeating. If you’re already into exercise, make sure to keep the habit during the quarantine. If you haven’t been very active recently, now is a great time to start an online program and slowly get better on your own terms.

Do you have periods when you could eat all day long and when it seems that no food can really satisfy you? It’s possible that you suffer from high cortisol levels due to stress. When you’re stressed out, your relationship with food changes. The hormones of hunger and fulness become unbalanced and leaves you craving food all the time. How can you change that?

Relax

Next time you feel a sudden craving for food, take a deep breath and try to relax your whole body. Try meditating or simply focus on your breath for a while. After this, it’ll be easier to skip your snack or to replace it with fresh veggies.

Eat Slowly

Your brain needs some time to figure out that you’re full, so eat slowly and avoid the chance of overeating. Once you’re full, simply stop, even if there’s more food on the plate.

Physical Activity

Physical activity will help you burn calories, but it’s also a great way to reduce stress and regulate food cravings. Even walking helps if you can’t do anything else!
