French toast is usually seen as a quick and easy dish, but that doesn’t mean yours will be perfect on the first try. If you feel like your French toast is missing a little something to be amazing, maybe you’re making one of these common mistakes.

Bread Mistakes

The bread you’re using can make or break your French toast. Keep in mind it will soak up all the custard, so you should always go with spongy and sturdy loaf and make sure your slices aren’t too thick or thin. Properly soaking the bread in your egg mixture is equally important.

Custard Mistakes

Speaking of your egg mixture, it’s very important to stir it properly so the dairy, eggs, and spices would be well-combined. Also, keep in mind not to go overboard with dairy, so your toast wouldn’t end up too soggy, and cut down on sugar if you’re using other sweeteners.

Heat Mistakes

Once your bread and custard are prepared, it’s important to keep the heat just right. It’s recommended to use medium heat and cook 3-4 minutes on each side, allowing your toast to properly cook on the inside without burning on the outside.
