People like to eat the weirdest food combinations, but the most popular ones are never too weird. While some swear by salting their watermelon or putting honey on pizza, others have discovered a great new condiment for hot dogs. It’s something you’ve been eating your whole life but probably never on a hot dog—peanut butter.

Peanut butter is incredibly versatile. You can use it in sweet or savory sandwiches, sauces, desserts, and many other places. It is a burger topping in some restaurants, as it’s creamy enough to be spread over the burger and the flavors go great together. The latest hit is using peanut butter as a hot dog topping, and once you try it, it will be clear why.

If you want to give it a chance, make sure to put peanut butter on the hot dog while it’s still warm. It will melt into a delicious sauce and give it another layer of flavor, plus the nostalgic note for all of you who lived on PB+J sandwiches as kids.

Not everyone is in love with this trend, though. After all, we don’t all enjoy the same foods. But if you’re ever out of mustard to put in your hot dog, you know what to do.

If you have ever traveled to Germany before and eaten at a currywurst stand, you will undeniably be familiar with the marvel that is curry ketchup. This condiment, which is mostly popular in Europe, is a more flavorful version of the classic tomato-based sauce that goes great with French fries, hot dogs, and a whole range of other foods.

Have you ever considered trying to make curry ketchup at home? If so, here’s how to do it quickly and easily!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup tomato ketchup
  • 3 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons paprika
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

It’s so easy to make this curry ketchup! First, go ahead and place the tomato ketchup in a small bowl or Tupperware container.

Next, add the curry powder, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, honey, and cayenne pepper and stir thoroughly with a spoon.

Taste your curry ketchup to ensure that its flavor matches up with what you like. You can always add more honey if you want it a bit sweeter, or more cayenne pepper if you want it to be spicier.

Cover and place in your refrigerator overnight, so the sauce’s flavors combine. Eat within a week or two to ensure the curry ketchup doesn’t go bad, and enjoy!

Isn’t butter wonderful? While this dairy product might not be the healthiest food, it sure is good from time to time as a flavor enhancer.

While normal butter is delicious, combining it with herbs and garlic to make an even tastier version of this treat is a great idea. It works especially great when dabbed on top of a nice steak. Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients

  • One 4-oz stick of regular, salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

  • The first thing you will want to do is allow your stick of butter to sit out at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes, or until it becomes soft and malleable.
  • Once you have done this, take a sharp knife and cut tiny pieces of fresh basil, thyme, and parsley. Set aside along with your half teaspoon of lemon zest and the garlic butter.
  • Place the butter into a bowl, and add the lemon zest and herbs. Mash together and mix with a fork until all of the ingredients are evenly blended together.
  • Once you’ve done this, place the garlic herb butter on a piece of wax paper and form into the shape of a stick using the wax paper. Place in the refrigerator and allow to harden and set.
  • After doing this, your garlic herb butter is prepared and ready to use!

Mustard is taken for granted at the hot dog cart and in the packets at fast food spots. But you don’t have to settle for the bright yellow preservative version.

In visiting a very small town called Mineral Springs, about an hour outside of Madison, WI, the world’s largest (and maybe only) mustard museum resides. The mustard museum hosts the history of mustard, paraphernalia and all of the different uses, but the museum also presents how many flavors and varieties of mustard are possible.

Simply, mustard is made of ground/crushed mustard seeds, lemon, water, vinegar, wine, and salt. But when you make your own mustard you can choose to add spices, different types of vinegar and different types of citrus (acidic component). For instance, traditional Irish mustard is mixed with whiskey, stout and honey. Dijon mustard is made with white wine or unripe grape juice rather than vinegar.

Regardless you can experiment with different kinds of vinegar and spices to create your own delicious mustard and be sure to leave that French’s mustard packet in the dust.
