Indians consume masala chai religiously and they’ve brought the gift of this humble tea to everyone in the world. If you’re looking to make your own masala chai recipe at home, follow these simple steps and reap its benefits.

Ingredients:

  • large glass or glass mug
  • cinnamon
  • ginger
  • cloves
  • cardamom
  • star anise
  • fennel
  • nutmeg (optional)
  • plant milk
  • spoon
  • pot
  • stove
  • brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Bring the plant milk and chai spices to a simmer in a small saucepan on the stove. Ration the spices to how spiced you want the drink to taste. For a subdued taste lessen the fennel and anise and focus more on the cinnamon.
  2. Add 2-3 bags of tea depending on how many people you want to serve.
  3. Steep the tea for 10-15 minutes and turn off the stove.
