Dining out in London is a must—for both locals and tourists. But hanging out in the UK capital comes with a hefty price tag. Londoners know best. Food influencer and London local Leyla Kazim is here to help you out, compiling a thorough list of the best and cheapest eateries and restaurants around the city.

According to Kazim, the idea for the London Cheap Eats guide came out of a growing need. “During eight months of travel taking up most of 2015 I realized, when I did return home, I was going to have a lot less disposable income than when I left,” she recalled on her website.

“I like to go out, quite a bit. I still very much wanted to be an active member of London’s dining scene, enjoying the fantastic meals it has to offer on a frequent basis, but without the £20-£60 (and beyond) price tag each time. And I figured there were others like me.”

And so, she decided to launch a comprehensive guide of the best budget food in London, made up of trusted and objective opinions, suggesting not only on where to go, but also what to order.

With a huge following on Instagram, her idea caught on. To date, the official London Cheap Eats Instagram has 93k followers.

The recommendations and reviews come with photos and videos that are alone worth your follows and likes. Be sure to check it out.

I've now eaten Dutch herring (or 'haring') in the typical Dutch manner, head back and holding the fish by its tail. I feel this was an initiation and I'm basically Dutch now, right? Super lekker ??? __ Last week I paid my first ever visit to Holland with @visit_holland and @easyjet, eating my way around beautiful Utrecht and The Hague ? There'll be a tasty video coming soon – stay tuned ? But what's even cooler is that I'll be running an Instagram competition for one of you guys to actually WIN flights to Holland and experience a trip like mine – what a prize! ? Keep your eyes peeled for the competition post in the next couple of weeks. __ A bit about Dutch herring ?? The fish is caught in the North Sea. They're cleaned, but the liver and pancreas are untouched as they release enzymes which help give the fish a great flavour. They're preserved in brine, and after some maturation, they're ready to eat. So it's basically raw. And very tasty! If you enjoy sashimi, you would probably like Dutch herring ? I had mine at seafood stall @hillebrand.de.graaf in Vredenburg Market in Utrecht, whilst on the awesome @streetfoodtourutrecht tour. __ So tell me, who's been to Holland before? If so, have you tried Dutch herring? And if you haven't, would you give it a go? “When we are once again able to move freely post COVID-19, I hope people will see what a gift we’d been taking for granted travel really is. I hope we will approach travel with the ambition to immerse ourselves in new cultures so that we can acknowledge, celebrate, embrace and learn from our cultural differences, rather than persecute them.

“I’m so thankful for the places that have been able to reopen with all the necessary social distancing measures in place, and appreciate the huge amount of planning and hard work that’s gone into that,” she added in a recent Instagram post.

How great it feels to eat out in a restaurant again, spritz in hand, al fresco, on a lazy summer evening in London ? Turns out I missed it, a lot. I'm so thankful for the places that have been able to reopen with all the necessary social distancing measures in place, and appreciate the huge amount of planning and hard work that's gone into that. __ No one knows what the future holds, but I very much hope glorious restaurants like @elliotslondon in @boroughmarket will still be a part of it. It's important we support them as much as we are able to – spending our money with the creative, wonderful independents – in order to help them survive. Remember, the big chains will be better equipped to make it through the other side of these strange times. The small places are fighting every day to stay afloat, and it's us – their customers – that can throw them the lifeline they need by giving them our business. Huge thanks to Elliots for the invite and the stellar food – not one dud dish (and @onehungryasian for the great company). My visit was so long overdue ? __ What's everyone's thoughts and feelings about dining out at the moment? Have you eaten in a restaurant since more have reopened? Japan's high-speed bullet trains (aka shinkansen) are legendary ?? Partly because they're one of the fastest in the world, reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h (199 mph). Back in October 2019, a mysterious Instagram account Park Row London published nine images that together spelled the words “PARK ROW” without explaining the meaning of it. The account’s activity continued on February 12th with six more images that show the interior of a new restaurant with a penguin ice sculpture in the center. The account simply wrote “The Iceberg Lounge” and tagged the official DC Comics Instagram account along with a hashtag #ThePengun, which made us think it has something to do with the Batman movies.

We were right: the images actually show the inside of a new, Batman-themed restaurant that will open in London later this year.

“The restaurant will be rooted within the DC Multiverse, taking visitors on a culinary adventure through the many fictional Universes famous for their superhero residents such as Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman,” a source told Eater London. The restaurant will “invite guests to experience the DC Universe without breaking the fourth wall—the imaginary wall that separates the audience from the performance.”

London is on its way to becoming the capital of cheese! The city is getting a pop-up cheese suite, as announced by the chain restaurant Café Rouge. The suite will open in Camden and the whole experience will be devoted to cheese.

Some of the things that await the lucky guests include cheese art, cheese bedding, and, of course, plenty of different cheeses to snack on. The restaurant is known for its “fromage-filled menu” and this project is an homage to that. You can enter the raffle if you want to win a stay in this amazing suite with a friend on February 7th, 2020.

If we’re judging according to the illustration the restaurant shared on social media, the suite’s decor will closely follow the theme of cheese.

“Included in your stay will be full access to all amenities plus the use of the cheese hotline delivery service – so you can relax and unwind at your leisure, whether that be listening to R ‘n’ Brie or catching up with someone cheesy on the eyes,” the restaurant’s website reads.
