Ever pulled open the crisper drawer of your refrigerator and found a bunch of limp vegetables without the will to live. While you may need a glass of water and a good night’s sleep to get your spring back, the good news is it’s way easier to get those greens crispy again.

Lettuce

Lettuce is the one vegetable in the world that cannot be eaten fried, boiled, or frozen. And let’s be honest—there’s nothing sadder than limp lettuce in a salad. In order to reclaim that crispiness, try plunging your leaves in an ice bath with some lemon juice or vinegar.

Carrots

Here’s the thing: carrots shouldn’t bend. If you find your orange sticks are doing just that, it’s time to revive. Slice a thin piece off the bottom of your veggie and submerge them in a bowl of water which should then be placed in the fridge. You should begin to see results after about an hour.

Celery

Celery is all about the crunch factor. Shock therapy is needed to revive stalks that have seen better days, so place them in a bowl of ice water and let them sit in the fridge for at least an hour.

If you’re a fan of sandwiches, wraps, or burgers—there’s a unique lettuce you’ve probably never heard of that you’ll definitely want to try. In fact, it’s so unique it’s called Lalique. Here’s what it’s all about.

Lalique lettuce is a new hybrid lettuce that’s like a cross between iceberg and romaine. It has all of the satisfying crunch of iceberg lettuce, but all of the color, flavor, nutrients, and ruffled leaves of romaine. Vibrant, crisp, and fresh, Lalique has everything you love about lettuce, plus it’s grown year-round with pesticides. The best part? It’s never bitter.

Because of its round shape and ruffled texture, Lalique is perfect layered on bread or buns with other ingredients. Its texture can hold onto the ketchup, mustard, and mayo you might want to layer onto a sandwich or burger, and you won’t have to chop it up to make it fit right.

So next time you spot this weird lettuce you’ve never heard of on grocery store shelves or at your local market, give it a try.

A lot of foods that you consume every day have an effect on your body that you can’t even anticipate. Some give you a boost of energy, while others slow you down. Check out which are the foods that make you sleepy below.

Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds have that calming and relaxing effect because of their high content of minerals. Zinc and magnesium help you calm down and have a nice nap.

Lettuce

Lettuce will not only make you sleepy, but it also has a proven calming effect. These leafy greens have very similar calming characteristics such as opioids. Research shows that lactucin, which is a part of lettuce, leads to this effect.

Bananas

Your favorite fruit is also making you sleepy. The combination of magnesium, potassium, and sugar will have you feeling tired and want to take a long nap.

Pasta

Pasta is one of the foods that make you sleepy. It is loaded on carbohydrates, which increase the blood sugar and affects the insulin levels. All of this leads to a strong feeling of tiredness. Pasta is joined by other foods that are also rich in sugar and flour such as pastries.

Cherries

Cherries are also somewhere on top of the list of foods that make you sleepy. They are highly saturated with melatonin, the hormone that aids with quality sleep. Next time you want to stay awake, avoid eating cherries.

Before I tell you why I am loving cherries as my snack, a side note first. . I am someone that needs to switch up my foods often because I get bored of eating the same thing every day. Fun fact: switching up your fruits and veggies actually work in our favor! When you include variety when choosing your foods, you are also switching up your nutrients. You can think of it as a nutrient rotation. . Usually I try to go for whatever is in season. This is because they are for the most part cheaper, taste that much better, and are actually more nutrient dense. Lately I have been enjoying cherries! They are absolutely delicious and sweet. Which for me, works great as a snack and when I am craving that something sweet. And the fact that cherries have that beautiful rich color, makes them loaded with nutrients. Just to name a few, cherries are rich in the following: -antioxidants -anti-inflammatory compounds -fiber -vitamin C -vitamin A . I also love cherries because there's a certain level of mindful eating required. You can't just eat them like raspberries or blueberries. You have to remove the stem and then there's the cherry pit that you have to spit out too. These foods, the ones that aren't so easy to eat, are great because they remove us a bit from the auto-pilot. They also help make sure that we don't overeat and give us more time to assess our hunger and feeling full cues. Which makes for the ideal option for when we are having a stressful moment. #thenutrinut #nutrinut #nutrinutmantras #nutritioncoach #mindfulness #bingeeatinghelp #nutritionislife #cherries #cherrybenefits #emotionaleating #intuitiveeating #eatwell #eattonourish
