Nothing says Halloween like the spicy taste of pumpkin. Whether your child’s birthday is coming up, or you’re just having a special Halloween celebration with friends and family—this chocolatey pumpkin cake will go down a treat.

Prepare Batter

Whisk up 2 cups flour, 3/4 cup cocoa, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. In a smaller bowl, whisk up 1 cup buttermilk, a can of pumpkin and 1.2 teaspoon of vanilla essence while you blend 2 cups sugar and butter on a low speed.

Mix

Keep beating the sugar and butter until it becomes fluffy, soft and pale. Break eggs into the mix one at a time. Beat the mixture well so that each one is entirely subsumed. Gradually add both the flour mixture and the buttermilk mixture. Continue beating until the batter is entirely smooth.

Bake

Pour the batter into two 8-inch round cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. You will know when they are ready if the inside is cooked. When they are ready, leave for around 45 minutes to cool.

Serve

Add frosting to the base and stick both sides of the cake together. Give a coating of brown chocolately icing and decorate with orange glitter candy.

Halloween is coming up soon, and foodies who like celebrating this holiday have all kinds of costume options they can dress up in to get into the spirit of the day!

Whether you prefer a scary or a more low-key costume, here are some suggestions for you on Halloween.

Chef

A chef is a classic Halloween costume, and one that will demonstrate your foodie tendencies to all of your friends on this special day. Grab a chef’s hat, a white jacket, and black pants to complete the ensemble.

Butcher

Dressing up as a butcher is a way to find the juncture between scary and foodie on Halloween. Don’t be afraid to carry around a fake knife, scatter some fake blood on your costume, and look really intimidating as you go trick-or-treating or to a party with friends!

Ketchup and Mustard

Are you planning on celebrating Halloween with your significant other or with a good friend who is also a foodie? Why not choose a classic costume for pairs—ketchup and mustard? All you need are some red and yellow clothes and a little bit of ingenuity.
