We all tend to buy leafy greens like lettuce in bulk. It is more convenient as we rarely know how much we’ll use or when we’ll need them again. Of course, this comes with a significant drawback, as the leafy greens we don’t use up become wilted and inedible in just a couple of days. But it doesn’t have to be that way. As it turns out, you can keep your leafy greens fresh for more than a week with just one simple storing method.

How to Keep Leafy Greens Fresh for Longer

Keeping leafy greens fresh for longer is actually quite simple. Simply line up a plastic container with a paper towel and place the leafy greens inside. Then place a paper towel on top, close the lid, and store in the fridge.

The main reason why leafy greens tend to wilt quickly is moisture. The plastic container will minimize the exposure to moisture from the outside, while the paper towels will soak up the moisture inside the leafy greens. For added freshness, you can change the paper towels every couple of days.

If you don’t have enough space in your fridge for a plastic container, you can also use a Ziploc bag. Simply roll the leafy greens into a paper towel and store them in the bag.

Leafy greens stored this way will remain crisp for at least a week but often longer than that.
